Should I share my ice cream? By Mo Willems

My kids and I simply love, love, love Mo Willems Elephant and Piggie series.

The words r simple, and very manageable for early readers, the pictures especially the facial expressions of the characters follow the plot so closely that the reader would naurally want to act out the story... Making the entire reading more interesting...

In this episode, Gerald, the elephant is faced with a dilemma as to whether or not he should share his ice cream with his best friend, Piggie... Should he or should he not...

My kids favourite part of this story is this, especially when dramatic me acts it out... They ended  up reading the few pages over and over again and repeated the same actions to my hubby...very cute... I give this story 4 stars!!!!

Slinki malinki, open the door by lynley dodd

4 stars (2-5 year olds)

Slinky malinki and his mischievous sidekick , Stickybeak Syd are wrecking havoc in the house with every door that they open.... Get the  kids to guess which room Slinky is going to open next and the kind of mess that they'd create next... Who do you think or what do you think would be behind the last door?

The sentences flow rhythmically, making the reding very enjoyable for the reader and listener. The repetitive sentences, helps in training the kids in their reading...

Will definitely look out for more Lynsey Dodd books...

Beginnings

Ok... Here goes my mini project...

I love children's books... Their colours, their innocent stories which hold such great values... The simple words which bear so much meaning...

Every night I try to read to my 3 babies - a 7-year old princess, 4 year old prince and 2 year-old princess. I've always loved Reading and reading to children and seeing the reaction that stories bring out from them. I love seeing the glitter in their eyes as they wait for what may come in the next page.... The bonus which comes out of reading to my kids other than having fun, is that it indirectly helps in their own reading development....

I've been reading daily, since my 1st one was born... So I can safely say that I've read tons of children's books by now... And I still get excited if I see a new children's book that I've yet to read, so this explains my project...

Every night, I will try to post a mini book review of the book that I've read to my children... The book review will include -

  1.  A rating between 1 to 5 stars,
  2. The age group that I think it is most suitable for, based on my kids reaction to it...
  3. A brief synopsis of the story
  4. My kids reaction to it
  5. Any possible per or post reading activities (if time permits and if creative juices flow)
Other than being an avenue on possible like-minded people who love children's books, it is also a means for me to keep a list of the books that I love for future reference if necessary. And also as a form of discipline for me to think of activities that can further stimulate my children's development...

So here goes....READ WITH ME, MAMA...
